Senator Don Humason hosts annual free ice skating party in Westfield

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Western Massachusetts residents had the opportunity to get on the ice for free Saturday afternoon thanks to State Senator Don Humason.

Humason held his annual free ice skating party at the Amelia Park Ice Arena in Westfield. He told 22News the free annual event is a way to give back and celebrate the holidays in the community.

In the spirit of giving back, skaters were encouraged to bring nonperishable food items that will be donated to local food pantries.

"In the spirit of the season we try to do something for other people," said Humason. "There's unfortunately a need for folks who are hungry at this time of year, so we asked anybody who comes to skate for free to bring along a canned good or nonperishable item."

Senator Humason represents the 3rd Hampden and Hampshire District-- which includes 11 cities and towns across Western Massachusetts.
